New York Democratic Party leader Michael Blake made ‘career ending’ donation to anti-LGBT Senator
Michael Blake, a New York assemblyman and a vice chairman of the Democratic National Committee, made a “career-ending” donation to a state senator who voted against same sex marriage legislation in 2011.
Blake (above) made the $1,000 campaign donation to Senator Ruben Diaz (right), who is running for an open Bronx council seat.
Allen Roskoff, head of the Jim Owles Liberal Democratic Club, said the donation could be a “career ender.” You can’t support a bigot like Ruben Diaz and be a vice chairman of the national Democratic Party,” argued Roskoff.
Queens Councilman Daniel Dromm added:
“We can’t have a DNC vice chairman who says he supports gay rights and gives money to the biggest homophobe in New York. It’s wrong and shouldn’t have happened.”
Diaz also received a $2,750 contribution from Assemblyman and Bronx Democratic Party chairman Marcos Crespo.
According to the New York Post, Diaz an advocate for charter schools and services for the needy but he is also a social conservative who opposes abortion and same sex marriage.
However, when questioned on the issue, he said that same sex marriage “is the law. Let’s move on.”
